How often do you say “I am really proud of myself” or “Wow what I just did was really amazing”
I’m guessing not enough!
As a coach I am really noticing how rarely women actually give themselves recognition for what they do in their lives both for themselves and everyone else.
And even when there is a glimmer of it, it is usually beaten down with a comment like “I still have a long way to go” or mentioning the one thing they didn’t get done.
Well I’m saying NO MORE!!!
Because beautiful, you absolutely deserve to be proud of yourself. Everyday.
For the little things, the big things and everything in between.
I want to share with you a little story on how I discovered the feeling of pride again…
When I had my accident and had been living with chronic pain for about 2 years, I was in a not so pretty place. Actually it was out right ugly. I went through periods of not leaving the house for days at a time sometimes weeks unless it was to go to the doctors or pharmacy to try to get a new pain med that would magically fix me. Getting out of bed was a big deal. I hit rock bottom and some days showering and brushing my teeth were my biggest accomplishment (some days I didn’t even manage that)
Stay with me here, there is a point and I know you have seen it gets better…
This struggle and a hell of a lot of pain (in every way) continued for 3 more years. It was a really tough period in my life (the toughest) and I nearly didn’t make it out the other side.
But I did. And I noticed something that started to happen, with every step forward I took I got this feeling inside, at first it was soft, a little flutter and then it got brighter and made me smile and today it makes my shoulders go back, it makes me want to stand a little taller and say it loud and proud…
At first I couldn’t put my finger on it. What is this feeling I get when I do certain things, when someone gives me a compliment or when I reflect on how far I have come?
And then one day I realised.
I was proud of myself.
I AM proud of myself.
You see what happened when I had felt like everything fell apart and I had hit rock bottom is that I then started with a blank slate because when showering and brushing your teeth have become your biggest achievements, even doing the grocery shopping makes you feel like a champion.
Do you see what happened?
Usually we berate ourselves for only getting 98 things on our list of 100 done, but if your average has been a 0 then even a 1 is something to fist pump or happy dance about.
I want you to make today your fresh start. Stop thinking about all the things you should have done or are yet to do and focus on all the things you HAVE done, because darling it is more than how you started in this world.
Every day is a chance for you to make yourself proud and it doesn’t matter if it is by reaching for the stars or simply by reaching for something right in front of you.
Celebrate yourself and all you do. Always.
I’d love to know what was your proudest moment and why? Please share in the comments below.
